The Axotron IS-6MVW distinguishes itself from conventional shaking-incubators through two technical features: the non-contact magnetic drive and the continuously adjustable orbit. The magnetic drive transmits the shaking motion without a mechanical coupling, eliminating vibrations caused by imbalances that can occur with conventional drives and affect culture conditions. The adjustable orbit allows the shaking stroke to be adapted to different culture vessel sizes and application requirements.
The IS-6MVW is equipped with cooling as standard, allowing temperatures below room temperature to be regulated without retrofitting. Control is managed via a 10" touchscreen with a clear display of parameters for temperature, speed, and orbit. The unit is designed as a floor model for continuous operation with Erlenmeyer flasks, culture tubes, and microtiter plates. Price on request.
The vibration-free magnetic drive and precise temperature control with cooling make the IS-6MVW particularly suitable for sensitive cell cultures, recombinant protein expression in E. coli or yeast at controlled temperatures, aerobic fermentation, and cultivations where vibration artifacts can influence growth or product yield. For standard shaking-incubators without magnetic drive, the configurable floor models from Axotron, Zefa, and Infors are available.
Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions regarding the selection and operation of shaking-incubators in the laboratory environment.
These units are primarily used for vibration-free cell culture and expression applications. The magnetic drive prevents mechanical vibrations that could disturb the growth of sensitive cultures.
The choice depends on available space and required throughput. Benchtop units are space-saving for small sample quantities, while single-tier floor models offer larger tray surfaces for more Erlenmeyer flasks.
An adjustable orbit allows for the continuous adaptation of the shaking stroke. This enables optimal adjustment of oxygen transfer and mixing to the vessel size and culture medium used.
In contrast to conventional drives, power transmission in the magnetic drive occurs contact-free without a mechanical coupling. This almost completely eliminates vibrations caused by imbalances.
The shaking-incubators are designed for the use of Erlenmeyer flasks, various culture tubes, and microtiter plates, with the holders on the tray being flexibly adjustable.

Cooling enables precise temperature control below ambient temperature. It also compensates for the internal heat that can be generated by the shaking motion and the motor within the interior.
