Real-time thermocyclers eQ-series: qPCR for 16- and 96-well formats

Real-time thermocyclers (qPCR systems) detect PCR amplification via fluorescence measurement during the running cycle — without downstream gel electrophoresis. The measured fluorescence intensity correlates with the amount of amplified product and enables absolute or relative quantification of starting material. Typical applications: gene expression analysis, viral load determination, SNP genotyping, pathogen detection, and NGS library quantification.

Open platform

All eQ models can be operated on an open reagent platform — no binding to manufacturer-specific master mixes or kits. Commercially available SYBR Green master mixes, probe dyes (FAM, HEX, ROX, Cy5, etc.), and TaqMan assays from various suppliers can be used. This reduces ongoing reagent costs and increases flexibility in assay development.

16-well systems: eQmini-S, eQ162CP, eQ164CP

The 16-well systems are suitable for small to medium sample numbers, method development, and use in laboratories with limited throughput. Available with 2 channels (eQ162CP, from €4,000.00), 4 channels with PC control (eQ164CP, from €4,600.00), and 4 channels with integrated touchscreen (eQmini-S, from €5,200.00) — for location-independent operation without a PC.

96-well systems: eQ9600-4, eQ9600-6

The 96-well systems are designed for high-throughput qPCR with full plate loading. Available with 4 channels (eQ9600-4, from €11,200.00) and 6 channels (eQ9600-6, from €12,000.00) for demanding multiplex assays. Control is via PC software.

Frequently asked questions about real-time thermocyclers

The most important questions regarding the selection of the right qPCR system according to block format, channel number, and application.

When do I need a 16-well system, and when a 96-well system?

16-well systems are suitable for small sample numbers, method development, or laboratories with low qPCR volume — at a significantly lower purchase price. 96-well systems offer full plate throughput for routine analysis with many samples per run.

How many channels do I need?

For singleplex qPCR with one reference gene, 2 channels are sufficient. For multiplex PCR with several targets or dyes in one approach, as well as for melt curve analyses with several dyes, 4 to 6 channels are recommended.

Can I operate the eQmini-S without a PC?

Yes. The eQmini-S has an integrated touchscreen with onboard evaluation — it is therefore the only PC-independent representative of the eQ-series, suitable for mobile use or locations without a fixed PC connection.

Are the eQ systems compatible with commercially available qPCR kits?

Yes — all eQ models run on an open platform without reagent binding. Master mixes and kits from various manufacturers (Thermo Fisher, Bio-Rad, Qiagen, Roche, etc.) can be used.
