Wi-Fi data loggers for ULT freezers: Function and application

Wi-Fi data loggers continuously measure the temperature inside or on the ULT freezer and send the data via the network to a central platform or directly as an alarm message. Unlike wired loggers, no physical on-site evaluation is required; limit violations are reported immediately, even outside of laboratory hours.

Testo Saveris 2-T3

The Testo Saveris 2-T3 is a wireless data logger with an external low-temperature probe for measuring ranges from -195°C to +40°C, making it suitable for the entire ULT range of -86°C to -150°C. Data is transmitted via Wi-Fi to the Testo Cloud, and alarms are sent via email or SMS when defined limits are exceeded. The solution is suitable for GMP-compliant documentation with a complete temperature log.

Mobeye PowerGuard CM4100

The Mobeye PowerGuard CM4100 is connected to the potential-free alarm contact of the ULT freezer (2 alarm inputs) and forwards alarm signals via mobile network, independent of the laboratory's Wi-Fi network. This makes it particularly suitable as a backup solution or for locations with unreliable Wi-Fi infrastructure. In the event of a power failure or device error, the alarm is forwarded directly.

Notes on GMP-compliant monitoring

For use in GMP-regulated environments, complete temperature records with defined measurement and alarm intervals are required. Both systems support these requirements; the exact configuration (measurement interval, limits, alarm recipients) must be documented as part of the equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ). As a supplement, alarm forwarding devices via telephone/SMS are available for redundant protection.
