Laboratory water baths: models and applications

Laboratory water baths temper samples via a water bath rather than direct heat contact, ensuring particularly uniform and gentle heating, such as when thawing samples, during enzymatic reactions with defined incubation temperatures, or when preparing reagents. All models in the series are digitally controllable, reach temperatures up to 99°C, and are equipped with a stainless steel lid to reduce evaporation.

Model overview by capacity

The WB-5 offers a capacity of 270×120×150 mm (5 litres) — suitable for smaller sample quantities or space-critical workstations (€670.00). The WB-12 offers 290×230×150 mm (12 litres) for medium sample volumes (€565.00). The WB-22 offers the largest capacity at 470×290×150 mm (22 litres) for the parallel operation of many samples or larger vessels (€919.00).

Typical areas of application

Laboratory water baths are used for thawing frozen samples, incubation steps in molecular biology protocols (e.g., hybridisation, enzymatic digests), heating reagents and buffer solutions, and microbiological sample preparation. The stainless steel lid reduces evaporation and heat loss during longer incubation times.

Frequently asked questions about laboratory water baths

The most important questions regarding the selection of the appropriate capacity.

Which capacity do I need?

The choice depends on the number and size of the vessels to be tempered. For individual samples or small sample series, the WB-5 (5 litres) is sufficient. For medium sample volumes, the WB-12 (12 litres) is recommended, and for the parallel operation of many samples or larger vessels, the WB-22 (22 litres).

What is the maximum temperature of the water baths?

All three models (WB-5, WB-12, WB-22) reach temperatures up to 99°C with digital control and display.

What is the purpose of the stainless steel lid?

The stainless steel lid reduces evaporation from the water bath during longer incubation times and decreases heat loss, which saves energy and reduces the need to refill water.
